what is moviepics?

worldwide, almost 10,000 movies are released each year. If you were to watch 27 movies a day for the whole year, you still wouldn't make it through all 10,000. So why, when I sit down to watch a movie, is there nothing to watch? I usually spend hours looking through common movie rating sites and streaming sites. Yet still, the main way I find what to watch is through family and friends. This feels like this is the true way to find movies. I wanted a place people could go to find a profile they liked and see what they recommend. This would move all of the guesswork and would get you watching movies faster rather than looking for them.

I told this to a friend, and they told me it sounded a lot like the box office picks "back in the day," where you could ask the people at the ticket booth for their recommendations and then over time you would find who recommends movies you like the most. This is so inspiring because instead of giving each movie one “objective" number like a one-size-fits-all. The remomendors are saying, we are imperfect and flawed, but that's what you need. Instead of conforming to mass opinion, they stick to their preferences, so you can trust what they recommend when they have similar opinions.

That is what this website is for. Not a massive database for rating every movie, not slandering opinions, but instead bringing the human factor back into the way we find what to watch.

  2. (optionalal) create an account to create your movie list, and we will automatically collapse movies you've already seen
  3. use the filters in the contributor's page to find what kind of movie you want to watch next
  4. watch your movie
